Falcon, Colorado is an unincorporated town 14 miles northeast of Colorado Springs. A railroad hub in the early 20th century, Falcon spent several decades as a quiet ranching community before experiencing rapid residential growth from the 1990s onward.
In 1881, the area now known as Falcon was crossed by the railroads: first the Denver and New Orleans on a rail bed parallel to today's Eastonville Road, then the Chicago and Rock Island on a rail bed parallel to today's U.S. Route 24. On September 20, 1888, the first mention of "Falcon, Colorado" appeared in the Colorado Springs Gazette, when it was announced that The Falcon Land and Town Company, associated with the Chicago Rock Island Railroad, were selling lots to individuals. By 1896, the new settlemnent was home to two hotels, a newspaper, six saloons, a pool hall, stockyards, two train depots, two general stores, a blacksmith shop and a school. The introduction of the automobile brought a decline in passenger rail traffic to Falcon, and after a 1935 flood washed out the Colorado & Southern tracks, the Rock Island railroad junction closed. By 1975, only a small number of homes and the school remained at the Falcon intersection.
In the early 1990s, Falcon began to enjoy renewed growth, with residential development once again proceeeding at a rapid pace. The area's population nearly doubled between 1990 and 2000, with several major retailers moving to Falcon in the past decade. 2004 saw the opening of Antler Creek, the longest golf course in Colorado and second-longest in the nation.

COLORADO: LAND OF ADVENTURE
A sprawling natural wonderland at the heart of America's west, Colorado stretches from the rugged peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the flat grasslands of the Great Plains and from the thickly settled suburbs of the Front Range Urban Corridor to the sparse desert of the Colorado Plateau. While the forbidding terrain of Colorado's mountains drew only the hardiest of pioneers before the 1850s, the discovery of vast mineral riches near Pike's Peak drove a land rush, and the state has never looked back. Still growing in population and influence more than a century and a half later, Colorado retains a maverick frontier spirit through innovations in technology, commerce, environmental science and contemporary American thought.
With an area of more than 100,000 square miles, Colorado's vast expanse is home to a striking variety of wildlife and natural scenery. At 14,440 feet, the summit of Mount Elbert is the highest point in both the state Colorado and the entire Rocky Mountain range. Home to four national parks, Colorado offers unrivaled opportunities for hiking and outdoor recreation, scenic drives, art and cultural exhibits, retail shopping, amusement and leisure.
Climate
Seasonal temperatures in Colorado vary widely by region. Generally speaking, the Eastern Plains are quite sunny and dry, with temperatures frequently exceeding 100°F in the summer months. Summers in the region are hot, with daytime highs near 90°F in July, though the dry air moderates the heat somewhat. Residents and visitors alike should be prepared for abrupt temperature changes, as conditions can vary greatly within the course of a day.
